Medicalisation of our society by Dr. Ignaas Devisch _

The HBO-V is proud to offer a very inspiring lecture by Dr. Ignaas Devisch to all our students. Ignaas is professor in philosophy, medical philosophy and ethics at the university of Gent.

During a lecture of 1,5 hour Ignaas will keep a compelling and very bewildered lecture about the medicalisation of our society.

Health used to be the absence of disease. When we didn’t have complaints, we considered ourselves to be healthy. Today, this is turned upside down: we are (literally) running after a good health and hunting for proof. But while we hope that screenings, tests or predictions exclude all risks, the opposite is the case: the more we know of our health, the more insecure we become in the knowledge of the risks we are facing.
